Janie St. John Nash

Janie St. John Nash, of Burkeville, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Wayland Nursing Home in Keysville.  Janie was born in Charlotte County, on July 7, 1919 to Walter S. St. John and Mary Deaner St. John and was raised on the family farm. She worked in the garment industry, taking time out to raise her two sons, then returning to work and retiring from the Amelia Dress Company in Farmville.

During World War II she was a “Rosie the Riveter” for Eastern Aircraft in Baltimore, MD making her contribution to the war effort.  She was a woman of faith and loved being outside working in her yard and shooting baskets, granny style of course.

She leaves behind two sons, James Nash and W.E. (Will) Nash and wife, Deanna all of Burkeville; and two beloved grandchildren, Colby Nash of Whiteman AFB, MO and Alexandra Nash of Charleston, SC.  Janie was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and four sisters.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 27 at 10 a.m. at Bagby Memorial Baptist Church, Burkeville, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m.  Burial will be at Salem Baptist Church in Madisonville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Salem Baptist Church of Madisonville or Bagby Memorial Baptist Church of Burkeville.
