FARMVILLE — The Farmville Free Tax Service will be preparing federal and state income taxes for the eighth year this spring for free for any taxpayer with an income below $50,000.
According to a press release from the group, the service is provided by local volunteers who are trained and accredited annually through the Internal Revenue Service.
“The purpose of the program is to provide low-income taxpayers with high-quality tax advice for free. The service is in its eighth year and last year prepared over 200 returns, saving local taxpayers thousands of dollars in preparation fees and ensuring that they receive tens of thousands of dollars from the Earned Income Tax Credit and other programs intended to help them but often unused,” the release stated.
Tax preparation sessions will be held at the Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library on Wednesdays from 3-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. beginning Feb. 3 and ending April 13.
Qualifying taxpayers can sign up by calling the library at (434) 392-6924 after Jan. 18.
