FARMVILLE — A 72-year-old Portsmouth woman was charged with reckless driving after her vehicle ran off the road, struck several trees and overturned.

Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said that Sarah E. Cowing was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries after the accident, reported at 2:32 p.m. Dec. 20.

The single-vehicle accident occurred on U.S. Route 460, about two miles west of U.S. Route 15 south, she said. 

“A 2008 Toyota 4Runner was traveling east on Route 460 when it ran off the left side of the road, struck several trees and overturned,” Geller said.
