After about seven years of serving hundreds of sick patients, worried families and careful doctors and nurses, the Rev. Willie Smith, left, chaplain of Centra Southside Community Hospital, has decided to retire. Smith, who also served as the hospital’s chaplain coordinator, has preached in churches in Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and California. He also served as staff chaplain at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg. Smith also served in the U.S. Navy from 1979 until 1996. We commend the good reverend for his diligence, care and peaceful presence to the patients, families and staff at the hospital. Pictured with Smith is the hospital’s CEO, Tom Angelo.
