School board honors Johnson, Christian and Gowin

BUCKINGHAM — School board members in Buckingham honored the late Joseph Silas Johnson, the late Russell P. “Pete” Gowin and David W. Christian last week during their regular meeting.

According to the resolutions, Johnson served as a custodian and school bus driver for 34 years with the division and was a part-time custodian at the division’s central office for 14 years.

Christian, who served on the Buckingham School Board for 16 years representing District One, chose not to seek another term.

Gowin, who served on the school board representing District Three, died in November after battling cancer. Gowin served as a teacher, coach and administrator with the division for more than 47 years. As a coach, he accumulated over 600 wins and was named coach of the year 10 times.

Families of the late Gowin and Johnson accepted the resolutions, while Christian and his family accepted his resolution.
