Charles Phillip Joyce

Charles Phillip Joyce, 78, of Staunton, husband of Mary Jane (Martin) Joyce, of Staunton, died Friday, December 11, 2015 at Augusta Health after a long illness. He was born September 20, 1937, in Winchester, a son of the late Charles Ross and Mary Elizabeth (Newcomb) Joyce. He grew up on a farm in Cumberland County.
Prior to retirement, he was a stockbroker with Branch Cabell in Waynesboro for over 20 years. Mr. Joyce was proud to have served as a United States Marine. He was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, the Staunton Civic Club, and Staunton Elks Lodge #351.
In addition to his wife, family members include two daughters, Rebecca Leigh Joyce of Staunton and Melissa Shawn Douglas and husband, Ryan of Stillwater, MN; three beloved grandsons, Parker Jordon Douglas, Jalen Shawn Douglas, and Matthew Jacob Douglas; sister, Patricia Spillman of Farmville; and a much loved cat, Smokey. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Joyce and a sister, Diane Joyce Herndon.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16 in Emmanuel Episcopal Church by the Rev. Shelby Owen. Burial will be private in Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church at 1 p.m.
