Appomattox NHP notes new hours

Appomattox Court House National Historical Park announces that starting Jan.2, the park will open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

The previous operating time began at 8:30 a.m., but visitation trends led park staff to make this change. This decision is based on a study of visitation metrics over the past year, and it is expected that this change should have a minimal impact on visitors while maximizing park resources. This half hour change will allow time for park staff to meet and work on projects while still continuing to provide excellent service to visitors.

The park will also now be open on Jan. 18 in celebration of Martin Luther King Day and on Feb. 15 for President’s Day. The park has traditionally been closed on these days, athough park staff indicated that holidays are often a convenient time for visitors to explore the park.

The park will operate under these new hours throughout the year with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.

“We invite you to visit with us soon and explore your park as we enter 2016 and the celebration of the National Park Service’s centennial,” a park spokesperson said.
