- Helping out with last year’s donation drive are, from left, the Grinch, Lindsay Gray, Katie Selfridge and Caitlynn Dove.
The Southside SPCA will hold its fourth annual Holiday Donation Drive on Sunday, Dec. 6, noon to 6 p.m., at the Farmville Hampton Inn, 300 Sunchase Blvd, Farmville.
“This is our main fundraiser event,” fundraising coordinator Steve Smelcer said. “We really want to focus on our live auction this year — we have a lot of very nice items.”
Live auction items include a half-day inshore fishing charter with Captain Tami Gray of Wicked Tuna Outer Banks; an Outer Banks getaway package with two-night stay on the Nags Head Oceanfront; a gift basket of assorted Yeti products donated by Sleeping Bee; and artwork including a signed limited edition lithograph.
The bake sale, raffles, silent auction and pet photography by Prettiest Things Photography will all run from noon-6 p.m. Registration for the live auction begins at 3 p.m., and the auction will run from 5-6 p.m. Kevin Schley will be auctioneer.
There will be a question-and-answer session with Captain Tami Gray and Amanda Malkowski from WRIC Channel 8 news beginning at 4 p.m.
There will also be a bake sale and silent auction all day.
The current wish list for the shelter includes laundry soap (HE), 39-gallon trash bags and 39-gallon trash cans, non-clumping cat litter (Walmart brand preferred), collars and leashes, canned dog/puppy and cat/kitten food, paper towels, towels, toilet paper, bright colored bath mats for adoptions, hypoallergenic dog food, grain-free cat food and 42-inch metal dog crates for adoptions. There is an urgent need for monthly flea and tick preventive for dogs.
The Hampton Inn is offering a special rate of $89 for the night of Dec. 6 for anyone traveling in for the event; call (434) 392-8826 and reference the Southside SPCA fundraiser.
This year’s Holiday Donation Drive is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Erica Geary.
