PRINCE EDWARD — The Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded two Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) grants for selective enforcement for speed and alcohol.
The DMV selective enforcement for speed grant is for over $4,000, according to a county document.
“The total amount of that grant will be used to pay overtime related to traffic enforcement. The required match of $2,077 will be paid from the sheriff’s existing fuel budget,” the document stated.
The second grant is for over $10,000. The majority of the money will be used to pay for overtime, while $2,900 will be used to purchase five preliminary breath test devices, according to the document.
Five-hundred dollars will be used to send a deputy to a Virginia Highway Safety Office-approved DUI conference. The over $5,000 match will be paid from the sheriff’s fuel budget, according to the document.
