PFSWCD poster contest winners

The Peter Francisco Soil and Water Conservation District (PFSWCD) held a poster contest for kindergarten through 12th grade students. This year’s national theme was “Local Heroes — your Hardworking Pollinators.”
The winners of the contest were: Category K-1, first place – Quidar Nahlij Minor, grade 1, Buckingham Primary School, Mrs. Vonda Wharam, teacher; Category 4-6, first place – Kaylynn Finch, Grade 6, Cumberland Middle School; second place – Vanessa Blackwell, Grade 5, Cumberland Middle School; third place – Cheyenne Crenshaw, Grade 5, Cumberland Middle School; Category 7-9, first place – Ziayah M. Dungee, Grade 7, Cumberland Middle School; second place – Jeremy L. Johnson, Grade 7, Cumberland Middle School; third place – Samantha Tillett, Grade 7, Cumberland Middle School (all CMS winners, Mrs. R. Jones, teacher). Category 10-12, first place – Marya R. Elasha, Grade 12, Cumberland High School; second place – Tiara Alexandria Beaty, Grade 12, Cumberland High School; third place – Shayna L. Swanson, Grade 11, Cumberland High School (all CHS winners, Ms. J. Stanley, teacher).
First place winners from each category were invited the PFSWCD annual fall dinner meeting where they were recognized and presented with a blue ribbon, certificate and $25 gift card. Their posters were forwarded to the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts to be judged at the state level.
Winners at the state level will be forwarded to the national level where the top three posters in each category will receive $200 for first place, $150 for second place and $100 for third place. Second place winners from each category receive a certificate and $15 gift card from PFSWCD, and third place winners from each category receive a certificate and $10 gift card.
