LU Jazz Ensemble to perform in Jarman Auditorium

On Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. the Longwood University Jazz Ensemble will present a fall concert in Jarman Auditorium on the LU campus. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
The concert will feature local musician Pat Lawrence as guest soloist on the upright bass. Originally from the Midwest, Lawrence studied music in Chicago prior to moving to Virginia, where has performed with numerous groups in a wide variety of musical settings for the past 15 years.
The LU Jazz Ensemble, in its 23rd year under the direction of Dr. Charles Kinzer, will perform music from the libraries of Maynard Ferguson, Arturo Sandoval, Buddy Rich, and Trombone Shorty, among others.
Roxanne Cook, a junior music major from Falls Church, will sing the Frank Sinatra classic, “Fly Me to the Moon.” Instrumental soloists with the Jazz Ensemble include Tyler Gage, a senior trumpeter from Appomattox, Cody Leonard, a junior saxophonist from Nottoway, and Lucas Whirley, a sophomore saxophonist from Keysville.
