DILLWYN — Two additional write-in candidates for the Dillwyn Town Council have declined to serve.
Carolyn Anderson Davis, a current council member who unsuccessfully sought election to the county’s board of supervisors, didn’t accept her write-in vote. Diane Holman James, a previous town council member, also didn’t accept.
The two were among a handful of people who received write-in votes on the Nov. 3 ballot where only two candidates’ names appeared for the six-person body.
Only one open seat remains on the town council. Tora Jones and Karen Moss were elected, while Ossie J. Harris III, Sharon J. Baker and Wayne M. Myers Jr., all of whom received write-in votes, have agreed to serve.
In January when the new council members are seated, the town council could vote to appoint an interim council member to fill the vacancy until a special election is held.
