Twenty-two Prince Edward 4-H members have taken on the Food Challenge. This program is a competition designed for teams of three to five 4-H members. Participants are given a set of ingredients but no recipe. They must work together over a 40-minute period to develop a recipe, prepare the dish, identify the nutrients provided by the main ingredients, and determine the cost per serving. When their time is up, each team is required to make a presentation to a panel of judges. Prince Edward 4-Hers will participate in a series of monthly workshops to prepare for a local competition in the spring. The top two teams in each age category will go on to participate in the Central District Food Challenge in April. Winning senior teams from the Central District have the opportunity to compete at the state level at Virginia 4-H Congress. Virginia’s top team will head to the National 4-H Food Challenge Competition. Pictured, from left, are Emma Forrest, Nick Magill, Jaclyn Slaughter and Mackenzie Bowen.
