CUMBERLAND — The Randolph Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded a $198,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) that will be put toward the purchase of a new tanker truck for the department’s fleet.
According to Fire Chief Ryan Bates, the grant will cover about 70 percent of the total cost of a new tanker. “We’re going to have to come up with the other 30 percent,” he said.
The department is in the process of seeking bids for the vehicle.
Part of the grant required a local match from the board of supervisors of $9,000, or five percent of the FEMA grant.
The department’s only tanker was manufactured in the late 1970s, Bates said, and needs to be replaced.
