NAACP to hold Freedom Fund Banquet
The Cumberland County Branch NAACP will hold its King & Queen Pageant and Freedom Fund Banquet on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Bright Hope Center in Cumberland.
The branch will honor Rev. Kern Gilliam, Ms. Roslyn Gilliam, Rev. Robert Jones, Mrs. Ernestine Reid Monroe, Mrs. LaVern Reid Depte, Sam Reid, Ms. Yetta Gilliam, Mrs. Gwendolyn Lipscomb Hairston, Ms. Gloria Washington and Ms. Shirley White.
These students were the first to integrate Cumberland public schools. Commonwealth’s Attorney Patricia Scales will be guest speaker. Tickets are $20; call (804) 909-0049 for tickets and information.
