Sophomore Marten Pajunurm of the Longwood men’s soccer team has been named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for the week ending Oct. 4.
Pajunurm played a key role in each of Longwood’s wins a week ago.
The sophomore defender scored his first career goal from the center of the box to push the Lancers past Campbell 2-1 in their Big South opener.
In addition, the Rapla, Estonia native, helped anchor Longwood’s defense that allowed just one goal in its last two games, including a 2-0 shutout against a Portland squad that had previously beaten then-No. 8 Oregon State and tied then-No. 10 Washington.
Pajunurm and Longwood’s defense rank among the top-three in the Big South, giving up 1.25 goals per contest.
Longwood is currently riding a two-game win streak and holds a 5-3 record, 1-0 in the Big South.
