The Longwood University String Ensemble will present a free concert on Sunday in the Molnar Recital Hall of Wygal Music Building at 4 p.m.

Now in its second year, the Longwood String Ensemble is a group of university students and townspeople interested in performing together on orchestral stringed instruments. It is directed by Spencer Smith, a recent graduate of Longwood and a music teacher in the Mecklenburg County School system.

Smith is assisted by Brooke Mahanes, a professional violinist from Charlottesville, and Micheal Norwood, a music student at Longwood. The concertmistress is Sabrina Brown. Membership in the ensemble is open to anyone and those with an interest in joining are especially encouraged to attend the concert on Sunday. The program will feature a mix of music from the orchestral and popular music traditions.
