At the September 15 meeting of the Cumberland School Board, Fitzgerald Baptist Church was recognized for facilitating the Mobile Food Pantry.
The members of the church, along with other community volunteers, are on hand once a month to distribute a truckload of food products to needy community members. Members of the sheriff’s department also take part in the distribution by carrying packages for elderly citizens and assisting with traffic control.
Officer Frankie Lampkin noted that this was an excellent time to get to know the citizens of the community and to let them know that the sheriff’s department is there to assist them.
Doris and Jerry Seal gave an overview of how the program works and noted that the program continues to provide more food to more families. They thanked all those who helped, including Delegate Tommy Wright who came to Cumberland several times to help with the distribution.
Student liaisons Ahkiya Allen and Hannah King noted that they planned to help with the Food Pantry whenever possible.
