The Woman’s Club of Buckingham County invited the candidates for the Buckingham Board of Supervisors to a meeting on Oct. 15th. There were several interesting ideas presented that I would like to share and comment on.
Donnie Bryan of District Two proposed again a meals tax because it is not mandatory. Morgan Dunnavant of District Four proposed a tax on rental property. I think both of these ideas are worth looking at because the county is always looking for more revenue and these ideas would not increase property taxes.
John Staton of District Four spoke about his open meetings twice a year with any and all citizens of the county. I think this is a great idea. It gives citizens more time to talk and learn about issues.
Don Matthews of District Three felt that unmanned dumpster sites should be manned. I think this is a good idea. Our government is supposed to serve its citizens and this will also provide a few more jobs.
