What do you think is the biggest challenge facing Buckingham and how do you intend to address it?

Meeting the changing needs of the people of Buckingham County in the most cost effective way. With limited sources of revenue available, all spending should be based on a strict cost/benefit analysis.

What new steps do you propose the county take to attract more jobs and businesses to Buckingham?

This is an issue I am very concerned about. We should constantly look for ways to boost economic development (for jobs and revenue) while protecting our rural lifestyle. Perhaps an economic development committee could be formed to identify practical approaches of attracting new business and industry to the county.

What is your opinion on the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline?

I believe the new pipeline is coming through Buckingham County, like it or not. I believe that the affected property owners should be adequately compensated and properly protected from any adverse effects it might have on them.

The county recently voted to remove the word ‘Buckingham’ from the annual vehicle decals. Should the county keep the decals?

I support keeping the vehicle decals.

The county is considering options relating to a new public library. Do you think a new or renovated library is needed in Buckingham? Why or why not?

I am not opposed to the new library, but I am concerned about the cost to the county of developing and maintaining a library versus its probable use and need. With widespread Internet access and availability of other nearby libraries, I question its need.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing Buckingham and how do you intend to address it?

I think our debt is a real concern. I would make it a priority to control spending. We need to take a more practical approach while still meeting the needs of the people. I would put more emphasis on whether or not something is needed or beneficial to the county before money is delegated to it.

What is your opinion on the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline?

I see it as a positive as far as the revenue it will bring. If we could get a tap, that would be a great asset to attract other businesses.

What new steps do you propose the county take to attract more jobs and businesses to Buckingham?

I would support offering new businesses a property tax moratorium. We need to work with new businesses by simplifying the process, making every effort to help them get established. Make sure that we keep taxes low.

I would support keeping the decals as is.

The county is considering options relating to a new public library. Do you think a new or renovated library is needed in Buckingham? Why or why not?

I would be open to renovating the current library as long as a practical and conservative approach is taken. I don’t think a new library is necessary due to the age of technology and the cost of construction.
