Prince Edward County High School students and staff dressed in red, white and blue Sept. 11 to commemorate Patriot Day. Also known as the National Day of Service and Remembrance, Patriot Day occurs on Sept. 11 of each year in memory of those who lost their lives in the 2001 attacks. SCA adviser Lisa Simon organizes the day of remembrance at PECHS. Senior Matthew Williams has worn red, white and blue in every commemoration during his high school years. “Even though I was just a little kid when the events of 9/11 took place, I feel like I need to do my part as an American to remember. And, I was raised in a military family, so patriotism is especially important to me,” said Williams. Sophomore Abby Roach added, “To be a part of such a large group of PE students in red, white, and blue made me feel like I was truly honoring those who died, and it reminded me that I am proud to be an American.”
