Kenneth S. Free was born on February 26,1935 in Detroit, Michigan. He passed away on September 11, 2015 in Farmville at the age of 80. He was preceded by his parents, Phillip and Minnie Free and sister, Norma Free Blight.
Mr. Free is survived by his wife, Loretta of 41 years; sisters, Patsy and Cathy Free; six children, Sherry Lynn Free McVitty (Freeman), Kenneth Sherman Free (Cindy), Wendy Ellen Free Robinson, Brian Andrew Free, Curtis Bradley Free (Terri), Timothy Darin Free; three stepchildren, Curtis D. Nix (Debbie), Debbie Shank (Carl), and Mark Nix (Billie); 24 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous extended family and friends.
He served 22 years in the U.S Navy as a Senior Chief Electrician. After retiring from the military, he worked as a contractor in Saudi Arabia teaching aircraft radar; doing what he did best, teaching others and exploring the world. He later settled in Virginia and went to work for the Va. Dept of Corrections as an Electrical Technician/Teacher. He was a great provider and a true gentleman at heart. He was loved by many and never met a stranger. Enjoyed quality beer, good conversation and spending time with family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6pm-8pm (tonight), Tuesday, September 15, at Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville.
The Veteran Funeral Service will be held at 11am, Wednesday September 16, at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery, 10300 Pridesville Rd, Amelia.
