Please don’t take the Buckingham News column out of The Farmville Herald!

I have enjoyed reading The Farmville Herald for 40 years and have looked forward to reading each Friday’s Buckingham News column.

A short list of very talented writers has written this community column during that time. I was saddened recently to see that Letitia Montgomery-Rodgers was no longer writing the Buckingham News column. She had done a tremendous job in keeping us informed of upcoming events for our large county of Buckingham. Whether it was an upcoming fundraiser for one of our county’s volunteer fire departments or our rescue squad, an event at the Virginia Cooperative Extension office, an upcoming meeting of one of our many civic organizations or an upcoming event at one of our community’s many churches, Letitia always did a wonderful job providing information so we could plan accordingly.

She often reported on these events after the fact with great photos and highlights that made us wish we had been there (if we weren’t). In recent weeks, I had noticed that the Buckingham News column had gotten smaller and smaller until it disappeared altogether.

I understand that change is inevitable, but I sincerely hope that the Buckingham News column will return to The Farmville Herald and that the amount of column space attributed to this valuable community service will be restored to what it has previously been. Thank you for your consideration.
