Four members of the Longwood women’s soccer team’s freshman class were named to TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Virginia High School State All-Star Team, the publication announced Monday.

Representing Longwood on the squad were incoming freshman midfielders Amber Hodges (Woodbridge), Kathryn Miller (Midlothian) and Sydney Wallace (Fredericksburg), and forward Sheyenne Stretz (Virginia Beach).

Longwood was one of just seven Division I schools with four incoming players named to their respective state all-star team, joining Charlotte, Iowa State, Kansas, UMKC, VCU and Virginia Tech.

Hodges, Miller, Stretz and Wallace make up half of Longwood’s eight-member freshman class, which also includes midfielder Emily Hunter (Fredericksburg), forward Amber Gustafson (Bolton, Mass.), forward/midfielder Kelly Almeida (Southbury, Conn.) and forward Paige Robertson (Spotsylvania). Those eight will make their Longwood debut on Aug. 21 when the Lancers host American in the season opener. Longwood returns 19 letterwinners and nine starters from a 2014 squad that went 8-8-3 overall and 3-5-2 in the Big South.

Longwood averaged the third-most goals in the Big South last season and boast a starting lineup that returns all but All-Big South forward Samantha Phillips and All-Big South defender Kelsey McDonald.
