The Farmville Lions Club just delivered to the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center in Roanoke over 900 pairs of intact glasses and many pairs of broken frames. Most of these were collected through the collection boxes in Farmville and Cumberland.
We did fall slightly below our goal of collections this year but hope to increase our collection next year.
The recycling centers need more glasses since we now can distribute here in the U.S. where humanitarian and mission groups are screening people for health problems and have vision professionals screening or available.
I do want to give the people who gave their old glasses to be recycled this year a big thank you. As you put the glasses in the collection box or give them to a Lion, you help a sight-impaired person see more clearly.
We thank the people who allow us to put collection boxes in their businesses. You can also put your old hearing aids in these boxes. Each hearing aid we get is recycled, repaired, refreshed and sent to a hearing aid manufacturer for final approval for an approved recipient. This saves us a lot. We do not have to buy them. You can find a collection box at numerous locations in Farmville and Cumberland.
We hope you will look and ask for old glasses and put them in a Lions’ collection box. You then can say you helped a person improve their sight.
Then two people will feel good.
