Twin Lakes announces the following weekend events: Friday, July 3, (Interpretive Circle) 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. “Birds of Prey Demonstration” — Wildlife Center of Virginia program with live raptors; 11 a.m. “Fishing 101” — everything you need to know about fishing, then try your luck on the lake; 2 p.m. “Survival Hike” — learn what to bring on your next outdoor adventure and how to make a primitive shelter; 4 p.m. “One fish, Two fish, Redfish, Sunfish” — learn about various species of fish inhabiting the lakes; 7:30 p.m. “Campfire Cooking and Story Telling” — campfire treats and tales of Francis Wood around the fire, meet in the fire circle behind Shelter One.
Saturday, July 4, 11 a.m. “Guided Canoe Paddle” — a ranger led canoe paddle around the lake, $5 per person or $4 per person for groups of four or more closed toed shoes required, meet at the Prince Edward boat ramp; 4 p.m. “Fire it Up” — how to make a fire out of everyday items in your pack, meet in the fire circle behind Shelter One; 8:30 p.m. “Owl Prowl” —a ranger led hike through the woods at night in search of owls, for ages 10 and up, comfortable walking shoes are suggested, meet in front of the Concession Stand;
Sunday, July 5, (Interpretive Circle) 11 a.m. “Archery” — learn the skills of archery, then test your luck on our range; $5 per person or $25 per group, closed toed shoes required, meet at the Archery Range just past the boat ramps; 2 p.m. “Beaver Hike” — a guided walk around Goodwin Lake to discover how the beaver has shaped our ecosystem; 4 p.m. “Back Yard Bass” — test your angling skills with this fun fishing game, prizes will be given for the best casters.
