BUCKINGHAM — Their sights weren’t set on which college they were moving to in the fall, or whether or not they’d need a part-time job once their courses began.

To an adult, their next step in life is a small one, but to the preschoolers, graduating to kindergarten is a big deal.

The third graduating class of the Buckingham County Preschool received their diplomas in a pomp and circumstance-filled ceremony recently, signaling their move to the primary school next year.

The future class of 2028, as the school’s lead teacher Sarah Davis Walker referred to them, was made up of 112 students, who sang songs, read poems and expressed their love and appreciation to their teachers.

Their graduating theme was “Everything is Awesome,” which was celebrated in their songs and teachers’ speeches.

According to programs distributed at the event, the students aspire to be teachers, preachers, chefs, scientists, cops, big girls, rock stars and “fighter[s] for our country.”

“Early childhood education is very important,” Walker told The Herald, “because the sooner we begin helping our children prepare for the future, the more successful they are going to be throughout their lives.  We strive to help Buckingham County’s preschoolers to be as…prepared as possible for kindergarten so that they will continue to achieve and score well on mandated testing.”

Walker said the school’s faculty staff wished the graduates the best of luck, and they’ll be missed.
