FARMVILLE — The Prince Edward County High School varsity boys soccer team suffered an 8-1 loss on Wednesday, June 3 in a VHSL 2A East Region semifinal game against George Mason.

With the loss, the Eagles’ season ended with a 19-1 overall record.

“The loss does not define our team. We made Prince Edward history with our win streak, we had two players that scored over 30 goals, and four players that reached 50 points (counting goals and assists). I am overjoyed with how well we played this year and could not be more proud of this group,” PECHS varsity boys soccer coach Devin Pierce said.

The Eagles began the game with fierce force, as Niko Reinson scored the first goal of the game in the first few minutes of the match. The goal was unassisted, as well.

However, that lead would not last for long. George Mason scored its first goal less than ten minutes later.

The visitors then went on to score two more goals in one minute before the half ended.

The second half saw George Mason weave around the Eagles and score five additional goals. PECHS was not able to score any goals during the second half.

“Remembering all of the preseason conditioning, the team yoga, the 6 a.m. practices,” Pierce added. “It is fitting that we had such a successful season.  This team has become a family, and will be the basis for comparison from here on out at Prince Edward.”
