CUMBERLAND, June 4 — Lucy Francis Martin Dowdy (Polly), 90, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, May 29, 2015. She was born May 26, 1925 in Cumberland to the late John Randolph Martin Sr. and Edna Blackwell Martin. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Joe H. Martin and John Randolph Martin Jr. of Chesterfield.

Left to cherish her memory is a brother, William T. Martin of Powhatan; her beloved big sister, Mary Ann Martin of Cumberland and her daughter, Bonnie L Dowdy of Cumberland whom she devoted her life to. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, friends and ample neighbors and the many boys and girls in the Sunnyside Community whom she kept and help raise over the years. She adored (and spoiled) each and every one and was loved by all. Momma Polly as she was known to them will live on in each of their lives for her gentle, kind, and loving spirit. Her lifetime was devoted to her home, family and caring for others.

Mrs. Dowdy’s greatest joy came from a simple life in the country surrounded by nature and all its beauty.  May she rest in peace.

Per her request, there will be no formal services, however all are invited to stop in and visit family at the family home.

A memorial donation may be made to Cumberland Volunteer Rescue Squad or Cartersville Volunteer Rescue Squad.
