Dr. Ben Selvan is the newest addition to the Centra Southside Community Hospital family. Dr. Selvan will join Dr. Kirsten Huber and Dr. Rodrigo Roldan in the Centra Southside Surgical Associates practice located on the hospital campus.

Dr. Selvan graduated from the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in India. He did his post-doctoral research fellowship at Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. He completed his Research and Teaching Fellowship at Penn Simulation Center, Philadelphia.

His surgery residencies were completed at PENN surgery program, Philadelphia and Drexel University College of Medicine. He currently serves as the chief resident at the Drexel Surgery residency program, Philadelphia.

Dr. Selvan is trained in basic vascular techniques that are important for emergency or trauma care. He also does thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy, open and laparoscopic inguinal and ventral hernia repairs, exploratory laparotomies, small bowel resection, appendectomy, right and left colectomy, gastrectomies, open and laparoscopic cholecystectomy, feeding gastrostomy, jejunostomy; and breast operations such as mastectomy and lumpectomy, laparoscopic procedures such as ventral hernias, splenectomies and adrenalectomies. Apart from laparoscopic work, he has worked in a busy endocrine unit where he did thyroidectomies, parathyroidectomies, neck dissections, surgical emergencies, cholecystectomies, small and large bowel resection, and retroperitoneal tumors. He also does upper GI work like gastrectomies and distal pancreatectomies.

Dr. Selvan is married, has one daughter, and is moving to the area.
