The Margaret Watson Bird Club will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, May 7, at 7 p.m., with refreshments available at 6:40 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Farmville/Prince Edward Community Library. The publish is cordially invited to attend.

Club member Evan Spears will talk about an exciting project he undertook recently when he decided to set up a water-bath station in his back yard to enhance his beautiful photography.

Here’s what Evan says about his project: “This month I set out on a quest to attract more birds to my backyard by creating a water feature that cots practically nothing. I used common household items and other material’s that could be found around most yards. While my ultimate goal was to provide the animals with fresh drinking and bathing water, my secret goal was to take close up photographs and videos of the birds without disturbing them. Come join us for a short presentation where I’ll documents my budget bath journey from start to finish.”

Evan is an avid birder who spends lots of time in the field whenever he can. In mid-April he documented the arrival of some migrants at Sandy River Reservoir, notably Ovenbird, Northern Perusal, Prarie Warbler, Yellow-thoated Warbler, White-eyed Vireo, Eastern Kingbird, Eastern Bluebird, Red-breasted Merganser, Double-crested Cormorant, Bonaparte’s Gull and Forster’s Tern (only the fifth regional record). He posted pictures of a singing Swamp Sparrow from Holliday lake which has been viewed over 8,5000 times by people all over the world.
