HAMPDEN-SYDNEY — Hampden-Sydney lacrosse head coach Ray Rostan recently announced Thomas Passenant (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Country Day), Jake Koferl (Huntersville, NC/Lake Norman), and Kyle Fraser (Salem/North Cross) as the 2016 lacrosse team captains.

The three captains, will be counted upon to lead a young and talented Tigers squad that graduated one All-American selection, one Scholar All-American selection, and four All-ODAC selections as they work toward the program’s fifth ODAC Championship.

Passenant, a senior defenseman who captained the Tigers in 2015, was a 2015 Second-Team All-ODAC and 2014 First-Team All-ODAC selection.

As a junior, he started all 16 games for the garnet and white, collecting 29 groundballs and causing 16 turnovers. The former Hofstra University transfer will once again be expected to be one of the top defensemen nationally as a senior. Passenant was a high school All-American at Charlotte Country Day.

Koferl, a senior midfielder, was fourth on the squad in points with 20 goals and nine assists. He was a 2015 Second-Team All-ODAC performer and a 2014 Third-Team All-ODAC performer.

A highly efficient player, Koferl contributed a point in all 16 games this season, with a season high four (3g, 1a) against Guilford and Mary Washington. One of the most vocal and hardest workers in the program, Coach Rostan expects Koferl to be one of the best midfielders in the ODAC.

Fraser, a senior defender, helped anchor a 2015 defense with 16 groundballs and nine caused turnovers despite battling injuries all season. A great teammate and vocal defender, Fraser’s greatest assets are his ability to communicate effectively with his defense. The former First-Team VISAA All-State star from North Cross will be counted upon to be one of the top leaders on the team defense.

The Tigers will open the 2016 season when they travel to Richmond to play Salisbury University at a location to be determined on February 6 for a 1 p.m. contest. The 17-game schedule includes seven teams ranked in the 2015 Top 20 national poll.
