Appomattox Court House National Historical Park will standardize its entrance fee beginning Saturday, May 23. On this day, the entrance fee into the park will be $10/vehicle, $5/motorcycle, and those rates will be in place year round. This will be the first change in the park entrance fee since 1996. The entrance fees have been seasonal and have included a per individual fee. Currently the summer rates are $10/vehicle or $4/person and the winter rates are $5/vehicle or $3/person.

Children 15 years of age and under will remain free and the America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational passes, Senior, Access, or Military will be honored. These passes may be obtained at the park.

“We are committed to keeping the park affordable while providing visitors with the best possible experience,” said park Superintendent Robin Snyder. “The money from entrance fees is used to create exhibits, maintain and improve visitor services, facilities, and park structures, and support the educational programs.” Examples of projects recently completed with entrance fee funds include repairing and repainting the courthouse building, fence repair throughout the historic village, and conservation of flags, uniforms, original parole passes, and other unique artifacts related to the surrender, just to name a few.

Appomattox Court House NHP is located along Highway 24, three miles east of U.S. 460 and the modern town of Appomattox. The park is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Specific questions about the fee change can be directed to Ernie Price at 434-352-8987 ext. 227.
