Happy birthday wishes go out to Annie May Miles, 79, of Dillwyn, celebrating Tuesday, March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day) and Larry Boyles, of Dillwyn, celebrating on Thursday, March 19.

Belated happy birthday wishes are sent out to Nellie Moss, of Dillwyn, who celebrated on Friday, March 6; Mae Rutherford, 94, of Cumberland, Margy Smith, of Farmville, Berta Childress, of Phenix and Annie Mae Wharam, of New Canton, all celebrated on Monday, March 9; and Elaine Myers, of Dillwyn, celebrated on Thursday, March 12.

Special happy anniversary wishes are sent out to Rodney and Sandra Ownby, of Dillwyn, celebrating 34 years on Thursday, March 19.

Our sympathy is extended to the Love family of Palmyra. Jeanette Arlene (Harlow) Love, 70, of Palmyra, passed away on Wednesday, March 4. A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 7. She will be greatly missed by all.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who are sick and shut-in everywhere.

Welcome home to Brenda Ragland of Wingina who spent some time at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville. She returned home on Saturday, March 7. She is said to be improving. Please continue to lift her up in prayers.

Our thoughts and prayers are sent out this week for a speedy recovery to Eloise Senger of Crewe who recently suffered a fall.

Barry and Linda Miles, James and Virginia Boyles and Mike Boyles, all of Cumberland, and Elizabeth Stone and Annie May Miles, both of Dillwyn, all enjoyed an afternoon meal at a Cumberland restaurant on Sunday, March 8.

Our sympathy is extended to the Boyles family of Amelia. Billy Bob Boyles, 93, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 5. A funeral service was held on Monday, March 9. He will be greatly missed by all.

Welcome home to Bill England, of Dillwyn, who spent some time at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Richmond. He is said to be on the road to recovery as of this writing. Everyone is praying for you.

Thought for the day: A doctor can save your life. A lawyer can defend your life. A soldier can give you a peaceful life but, only Jesus can give you an everlasting life.

The Buckingham County Christian Fellowship Association, a non-profit organization will be hosing their regular monthly meeting on Saturday, March 14 at 1 p.m. at the Mount Tabor Baptist Church, located on State Route 652 on Bridgeport Road, Arvonia. (The meeting was rescheduled from March 7 due to inclement weather.)

All members are invited to attend and bring a covered dish for lunch.

Following the meal will be the March program.

Spreading God’s Gifts Inc. is a non-profit organization serving Buckingham and surrounding areas in their need.

They will host a potluck supper on Tuesday, March 17 (weather permitting) from 6:30-8 p.m. at Browns Chapel United Methodist Church, located off of U.S. Route 15 north of Dillwyn on State Route 617 (Gravel Hill Rd.).

Loaves of Love is a food pantry operated by the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Cartersville and aims to assist Cumberland County residents including Cartersville. The next food distribution will be held Sunday, March 22 from 2-3 p.m. for those 60 or older and disabled veterans; then from 3-5 p.m. it will serve 59 years and younger. Individuals may qualify under age 59 based on employment and income. Individuals must bring in two forms of ID; including a photo ID and proof that you reside in Cumberland such as an electric bill, tax bill or voter ID. Union Branch Baptist Church’s scheduled food distribution for Saturday, March 14, has been canceled.
