Melanie Ann Hanks, of Hampden–Sydney, daughter of Annie Mae Pope, of Rice, and Richard Franklin Hanks, of Elizabeth City, NC, and Eugene Carson Lester, of Hampden-Sydney, son of Vada Ilene Yoder and the late James Marvin Yoder, of Prince Edward, announce their engagement.

Ms. Hanks is a 1998 graduate of Fluvanna High School. She is employed as a receptionist by Ridge Animal Hospital.

Mr. Lester is the owner of Farmville Towing & Storage.

An April wedding is planned.
