Ernest Joseph “Jerry” Sears Jr., 71

FEBRUARY 19 — Ernest Joseph “Jerry” Sears Jr., 71, of Farmville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 14, 2015 after a short illness.

He served our country in the United States Army, 82nd Airborne Division. After his service he served as Cumberland County dog warden and eventually became the owner and operator of Sear’s Wrecker Service.

Mr. Sears was a devoted husband, father, “Handdaddy” and great “Handdaddy”.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara M. Sears of Farmville; children, Angie S. Warriner and husband, Chris, Greg A. Sears and Joseph Sears; brother, Ronnie Sears and wife, Betty; sister, Tina Sears, grandchildren, Katlyn Warriner and Colby Warriner and great-granddaughter, Carlee Brooks.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, February 19 in the Chapel of Shorter Funeral Home. Interment followed in Amelia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fisher House at McGuire Veterans Hospital.
