JANUARY 6 — The Lord called Evelyn Bailey Fox home on Sunday, January 4, 2015. She was born in Darlington Heights, the daughter of the late Samuel P. and Bernice M. Bailey on December 10, 1920.
She was a World War II veteran, having enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 and served her country for four years. It was here that she met and married her husband of 62 years, Charles E. Fox, who preceded her in death in 2008. They resided in Northern Virginia until his death.
Mrs. Fox was a member of Arlington Baptist Church, where she was involved in many activities. She was a volunteer for many years for Bethany House, a mission for battered spouses and worked with homeless families through her church.
She enjoyed getting the Morris and Bailey families together for a week each summer at her old “home place”. The younger ones, adult now, remember those times with fondness.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Bryan and husband, Keith of Manassas; son, Charles “Rusty” Fox Jr. and wife, Tina of Catlett; sister, Hazel McKendree of Glen Allen; and brother, Samuel H. Bailey of Manakin Sabot. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, William Bailey of Richmond and a sister, Anne B. Benton of Glen Allen. She leaves to mourn her seven grandchildren, Trevor Bryan, Tracy B. Martin, Charles E. Fox III, Justin Ray Fox and wife, Sarah, Jennifer Rowe and husband, Rob, Heather Fox and Heidi Fox; twelve great-grandchildren, Michael and Anthony Martin, Allison and Lindsey Bryan, Teague, Luke, Savannah, Avery and Kaylee, Dahlia Fox and Brayden and Aubrie Rowe.
A funeral service will be held at Shorter Funeral Home on Friday, January 9 at 1 p.m. Family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until time of service. Interment will follow in the Spring Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Darlington Heights Vol. Fire Department after the interment.
