Thomas Julian Fulcher Jr., 89

NOVEMBER 11 — Thomas Julian Fulcher Jr., 89, of Farmville, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2014. He was born in Farmville on January 1, 1925 to the late Thomas Julian Fulcher Sr. and Sara Jenkins Fulcher. He was married to the love of his life, Elsie Dowdy Fulcher and together they had two children.

He attended Hampden-Sydney College and the University of Richmond. He served his country in the U.S. Marines as a radar operator during WWII in the Pacific-Asiatic Area. He was the chairman of the board and sales manager of WFLO radio station.

Mr. Fulcher was an active member of Farmville Presbyterian Church for over 50 years serving as an Elder along with many numerous other positions within the church. He was a past president of the Farmville Lions Club, Farmville Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Town and Country Planning Commission, a representative on “Keep America Clean Inc.” of Prince Edward County, served on the board of American Red Cross and a very active driver of “Meals on Wheels”. In his spare time he enjoyed tennis, sports, gardening, traveling and spending his time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Tom Fulcher (Gayle) and Sara F. Keen (Mark); four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ashby Fulcher (Emma) of Stoneville, NC and Bob Fulcher of Charlottesville.

He will be remembered by many as a dear friend and missed by those who loved him greatly. If asked now he would say “I’m having a hipsi tootsie day!”

A funeral service was held on Sunday, November 9 at Farmville Presbyterian Church with interment at Westview Cemetery.
