Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Howard (Dick) Dale Midkiff, of Winginia, celebrating on Friday, October 3 and Gladys Banton, of Scottsville, celebrating on Sunday, October 5.

Happy Anniversary wishes go out to a very special couple Dan (Shot) and Betty Jo LeSueur, of Dillwyn, celebrating on Monday, October 6.

Barry and Linda Miles, of Cumberland, Jane Cooke and her grandson Sam Givens, both of Brookneal, all enjoyed a day at the Virginia State Fair and an evening meal at a Richmond restaurant on Saturday, September 27.

The annual Byrd Family reunion was held on Saturday, September 27 in Fries. Attending locally were James and Virginia Boyles of Cumberland and Elizabeth Stone of Dillwyn. Everyone enjoyed the fellowship and the food was wonderful.

Barry and Linda Miles along with Annie May Miles of Dillwyn enjoyed an afternoon lunch and fellowship at a Dillwyn restaurant on Sunday, September 28.

Jones Chapel Baptist Church, located on Trent’s Mill Road in Cumberland, will host their annual homecoming on Sunday, October 4.

The day will begin with morning worship at 10 a.m. with pastor Allen Thompson bring the message. A song service at 11 a.m. with special guest The Taylor’s of North Carolina and lunch in the church fellowship hall. Pastor Allen Thompson and the congregation cordially invite all to attend and join them for a great day of fun, food and fellowship. The day will include games, pony and train rides, vendors, door prizes, free food and more.

Barry and Linda Miles, Annie May Miles and their cousin Cheryl Canipe, of Henrico, all enjoyed an afternoon meal in Richmond on Monday, September 29.

Welcome home to C. Walters of Powhatan who spent some time in the hospital. He is said to be recovering nicely as of this writing.

Did you know that three dogs (from the first class cabinet) survived the sinking of the Titanic? Two Pomeranians and one Pekingese.

Union Branch Baptist Church, located on Bridgeport Road in Arvonia, will distribute food on Saturday, October 11 from 9 – 11 a.m. Recipients must be a Buckingham County resident to receive one box per household. Boxes are served on a first-come first-served basis or until all food is gone. Buckingham Baptist Church, located on North James Madison Hwy., in Arvonia, will be serving supper every Wednesday evening beginning October 8 from 5:15 – 6:15 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. The cost is 44 per person or a family for $15 to cover food cost. Following this there will be Bible study at 6:30 p.m. Pastor Doug Adams and the entire congregation cordially invite all to attend.

Spreading God’s Gifts Inc., of Buckingham, is a non-profit local organization that extends help to individuals and families in their hour of need. All are invited to come and learn how to help by attending their regular monthly meeting held on Tuesday, October 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room of Buckingham County Public Library.
