Fuqua Football Crushes Portsmouth Christian, 47-6

PORTSMOUTH — The Fuqua School varsity football team could not be stopped on Friday, October 3, as they rolled over the Portsmouth Christian School Patriots, 47-6. With the win, Fuqua continues to be ranked number one in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) Division IV state football standings and improve to 6-0 in their season.

Josh Davis began the night scoring a three-yard rushing touchdown. With a successful extra point by Nicholas Fariss, the Falcons led 7-0. Shortly thereafter, Devin Allen scored Fuqua's second touchdown of the night on a 17-yard run. The Falcons then attempted a two-point conversion but were stopped by the Patriots defense. This ended the first quarter and left the score at 13-0, Fuqua, entering the second quarter.

The Falcons wasted no time and scored in the first minute of the second quarter when Tyler Frink scored on a three-yard run. Fariss notched the score to 20-0 with the extra point.

Frink scored once again before the first half ended on a 15-yard rushing touchdown, while Fariss gained the extra point. The first half ended with a 27-0 score and Fuqua continuing to lead the game.

The second half began with Davis scoring on an 85-yard kickoff return, which was followed by a successful extra point by Fariss. The score was now 34-0.

Davis quickly scored again on a 57-yard punt return to notch the score to 40-0. The extra point was unsuccessful. Antonio Gonzalez scored three minutes later on a 37-yard run. Fariss followed with an extra point, which improved the score to 47-0 before ending the third quarter.

The final quarter saw only one touchdown when Portsmouth Christian scored on a 30-yard run. With this touchdown, the game ended with Fuqua as its winner.

Davis finished the night as a key player with six carries for 117 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a catch for 30 yards. During the game, Davis hit the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season. Altogether, Davis has 1,033 yards rushing for the season.

Frink contributed with four carries for 58 yards and two touchdowns, as well. Frink also had 15 tackles. Fariss went five for six in extra points.

Antonio Gonzalez had a carry for a 37-yard touchdown during the game, while Thomas Shumaker had nine carries for 37 yards and nine tackles. Ed Newman ended the night with eight tackles.

The Fuqua varsity football team will return to their home field on Friday, October 10 when they face off against the Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot Knights in their Homecoming game at 7 p.m.
