FARMVILLE — The Fuqua Falcons varsity volleyball team was unstoppable on Tuesday, September 2 when they took a 3-1 win over the Kenston Forest Kavaliers.
“Last night was a big win for Fuqua School because Kenston Forest has been a big rival for us over the years. The Fuqua team was really working well together last night and started the games off strong,” commented Fuqua School head volleyball coach Emily Pleasants.
The Falcons began their night with a 25-19 win in their first set. Fuqua went on to defeat the Kavaliers, 25-22, in the second set, with their defense being lifted by Tessa Ayers. Ayers finished the night with 13 kills and three blocks.
“We slowed down a bit in the third game. But once we started running more offense, the girls kicked it back in gear for the fourth and final game,” Pleasants added.
Kenston Forest edged by Fuqua, 25-16, in the third set. However, Fuqua rallied in the fourth set and won, 25-21, winning the match.
“The team has been working on running a faster and more aggressive offense and I am really looking forward to seeing them exhibit this as the season goes on,” Pleasants remarked.
During the match, Taylor Frink and Lydia Painter led the Falcons offense. Frink finished the match with 38 assists and three aces, while Painter had 10 digs and two aces. Pleasants went on to say, “Overall, I am proud of what the girls accomplished last night and look forward to working with them for the rest of the season.”
Fuqua varsity volleyball will return to action on Friday, September 5 when they trek to Virginia Episcopal School for a 5:30 p.m. match against the Bishops.
