On September 6, seven members of the Friends of the Appomattox River enjoyed an outing on the lower Appomattox River beneath the Lake Chesdin Dam, down to the historic Petersburg Canal. Goods-carrying batteaux, many with tobacco from the Farmville area, once took this route.
