AUGUST 12 — Melvin E. ‘Pat’ Floyd, 81, departed this life on Monday, August 4, 2014. After graduating John Marshall High School in 1951, he entered the United States Navy during the Korean War.

Mr. Floyd obtained his formal education in engineering and surveying at the University of Richmond and Old Dominion University. In 1963, he founded Virginia Surveys, an engineering and surveying firm based in Chesterfield County.

He is survived by his family in Chesterfield and by his best friend, Peggy Davis of Dillwyn.

A graveside service with military honors was held Monday, August 11 at Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond.
