JUNE 5 — Douglas Eugene Davis Sr., 81, of Farmville, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2014 at VIBRA Hospital in Richmond. He was born in Pamplin to the late Ernest and Alda Brown Davis on April 29, 1933. He has lived in Cumberland for the last 65 years and enjoyed being a member of the Buck Town Hunt Party. He worked and retired as a correctional officer at Powhatan Correctional Center.
Mr. Davis is survived by his loving wife, Loretta Turbyfill Davis; two sons, Douglas E. Davis Jr. and wife, Nancy and Michael A. Davis and wife, Patti; two daughters, Laurie D. Harris and husband, Luther “Bubba” and Mary D. Myers and husband, Dwayne; 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and will be blessed with two more this year. He is also survived by a sister, Ruby Rose McAbee and a brother, Ernest Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Valden Davis, Annie Virginia Bullock, Katherine Childress, Marie Hendrix, Ernestine Mann, Hazel Barnes, Thelma Anders and Ruth Marie Hancock.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 7 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Puckett Funeral Home with interment to follow at the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ Cemetery in Cumberland.
Family will receive friends on Friday, June 6 at the funeral home from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
