Centra Southside Community Hospital’s laboratory successfully renewed its accreditation with the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on the results of an unannounced on-site inspection performed on June 10, by a CAP inspection team.
Laboratories who wish to maintain high quality services submit to the CAP accreditation program, which upholds strict laboratory standards and practices worldwide. CAP accreditation requires a biennial, unannounced on-site inspection of the facility as well as routine laboratory proficiency testing throughout the period in which a laboratory is accredited.
“We are very proud of both the quality and scope of services that our laboratory is able to provide to our community,” stated Marcia Accordino, Laboratory Director of the Centra Southside Community Hospital laboratory.
The College of American Pathologists is a medical society serving nearly 16,000 physicians and laboratory community members throughout the world. It is widely considered as the leader in laboratory quality assurance. The CAP is an advocate for high-quality and cost-effective medical care.
