Wanda Waycaster Ownby Wood

APRIL 10 — Wanda Waycaster Ownby Wood died Wednesday, April 9, 2014 in Farmville. She was born in Wears Valley, Sevierville, TN on December 20, 1927, the daughter of John Wesley Waycaster and Rose Alice Dunn. She loved the mountains of Tennessee and was firmly rooted in her Appalachian heritage. She was an expert quilter, an avid gardener and an accomplished crafts person.

She is survived by her loving husband, John Daniel Wood Jr. of Farmville; a son, Dale Ownby and his partner, Victor Pena of Powhatan; brother, Charles E. Waycaster and his wife, Bobbie Jean of Dillwyn; stepdaughters, Gloria W. Waycaster (Michael) and Susan W. Taylor, both of Dillwyn; stepsons, John D. Wood III ‘Danny’ (Barbara) of Cartersville and James R. Wood ‘Jimmy’ (Bonnie) of Dillwyn; along with loving nieces, nephews and numerous grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Loyd Arnold Ownby, two brothers, James Grayson and Wesley Dee Waycaster of Dillwyn, nephew, John Windell Waycaster of Buckingham County and a stepson, Kenneth Wayne Wood of Dillwyn.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 13 at 2 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home with interment in Buckingham Baptist Church Cemetery, Gold Hill. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. before the service.
