George M. Snead

MARCH 25 — George M. Snead, of Farmville, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014 with his family by his side. He was born June 30, 1925 in Hemphill, WV to Maynard B. and Myrtle Gullett Snead.

Mr. Snead graduated from Welch High School in 1943. He continued his education at Bowling Green Business College, where he graduated in 1947 and then at Western Kentucky University. He was the former owner of the Pure Oil Station in Welch, WV. He went to work as a business manager for Mabe Cartwright Motors and later his career took him to Steven’s Clinic Hospital in Welch, where he retired as assistant administrator in 1987.

He was past chairman of McDowell County March of Dimes, board member of McDowell County American Red Cross, past president of the Mighty Welch Lions Club, member of Welch Masonic Lodge and lifetime member of Beni-Kedem Shrine. At the time of his death, he was a member of Buckingham Lions Club, Southside Shrine Club and Virginia Cattleman’s Association.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Lois Wallace Snead; a sister, Helen Snead Sine of Welch WV; a niece, Sally Sine Bailey; a stepdaughter, Barbara Bowman (Walter) Belcher of Ft. Worth TX; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Elizabeth Maddox Snead.

Services will be held at a later date in his home state of West Virginia.
