Alleged Still Seized In PE

PRINCE EDWARD — Deputy Andy Cary and Lt. Richard Hurak Sr. of the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office, according to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, were investigating reports of threats over the phone and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon February 17.

The Virginia State Police Tact-Team assisted the sheriff’s office with the execution of a search warrant, the release cited.

The release cites that during the course of the search of the residence in Pamplin, “…Lt. Hurak came upon what he believed to be illegal alcohol. Sheriff Wesley Reed stated that with the execution of a second search warrant Deputy Cary, Sgt. Robbie Franklin and Lt. Hurak discovered a still with approximately nineteen (19) gallons of illegal ‘Moonshine’ and components for making illegal alcohol.”

The release further stated that a 44-year-old Pamplin man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

Not all charges were available from the combined court as of Tuesday morning. The Herald does not publish the name of an accused unless charges are on file, for verification, with the court clerk.

According to the release, the suspect is currently being held at Piedmont Regional Jail under no bond.

Sheriff Reed thanked the Pamplin Volunteer Fire and Rescue for their stand-by assistance.
