FARMVILLE — Pool membership rates will more than double next summer at the Farmville Municipal Golf Course.
And town residents will no longer pay less than someone living in Buckingham, Cumberland or Prince Edward.
Town council approved a family pool membership rate of $400, up from the $175 charged this year, an increase of 129 percent, or a $225 fee hike. Family membership includes two adults and all dependents living in the house.
Individual pool membership will increase from $100 to $250.
Furthermore, the new pool membership rates will be the same for both in-town and out-of-town residents.
Previously, those living outside the town paid appreciably more for pool membership. For example, while in-town family membership cost $175 last summer a family living out of town paid $250. Now the family membership fee will be $400, regardless of residence.
The daily rate for use of the pool, which the Town is spending nearly $100,000 to renovate this off-season, will be $5.
The new membership fees were recommended by town council’s recreation committee and were passed, without council member comment, unanimously.
Golf memberships, in another change, will no longer come with free pool membership but golf members can purchase pool membership for a 25 percent discount.
Town council also approved the committee’s recommendation that corporate golf memberships be abolished.
Town manager Gerald Spates explained eliminating the corporate golf membership, saying, “we’ve had some issues with that where you have one individual sign up as a corporate member and end up with 10 people and pay $50 a year. So we’d like to eliminate the corporate membership.”
And they did.
Golf membership fees, on the other hand, do charge Farmville residents less than those living beyond the Town’s corporate limits.
A Town resident, or Town employee, will pay $250 for an individual membership, while those living out of town will pay $400.
Seniors, aged 60 and over, will be charged $200 for a golf membership if they live in town.
Those living out of town will pay $300.
