Hampden-Sydney Plans Homecoming Concert

The College Activities Council of Hampden-Sydney College presents Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, with co-headliner David Lee Murphy, to play for the annual Homecoming concert on Friday, October 25.
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, a Grammy award winning sensation, is breaking from a nationwide tour to play at Hampden-Sydney College. Over the last four decades, the band has packed venues across the country with a straight, traditional country and bluegrass sound. Doors will open at 8 p.m. at Lagoon Field on the campus of Hampden-Sydney College. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, a three-time Grammy Award winning band, has been rocking out since their formation in 1966. Known for their seamless combination of the Rock, Country, Folk, and Bluegrass genres, the band has achieved much success under the leadership of constant members since the early times, singer-guitarist Jeff Hanna and drummer Jimmie Fadden. Among their successes, the band has released five Top Ten Albums and three Number One Singles including Fishin’ in the Dark, Modern Day Romance, and Long Hard Road. In addition to these great hits and more, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has also released 15 other singles that charted in the Top Ten.

David Lee Murphy, a country music artist, got his professional start in the mid-90s and has been on a roll ever since. In nearly two decades, he has produced four albums with a total of thirteen singles on the country charts, including the Number One hit, “Dust on the Bottle” in 1995 and four more Top Ten hits such as his Top 5 single, Loco. In addition to his own work, Murphy has also collaborated and written songs for many other artists including the Number One hits, “Living in Fast Forward” for Kenny Chesney, “Big Green Tractor” for Jason Aldean, and “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not” for Thompson Square.
